Primary Care Streaming Service
In 2018 the Bradford Clinical Commissioning Group commissioned BCA to provide a primary care streaming service and presence in the Emergency Department at Bradford Royal Infirmary.
The service was to be embedded within A&E with the aim of tackling approximately 22% of patients attending with lower acuity primary care conditions.
Key aims of the service being;
- To provide an alternative pathway within the Emergency Department at Bradford Royal Infirmary for people with conditions that are suitable for management by a primary care physician enabling patients to be treated by the clinician with the most appropriate skills to meet their clinical need.
- To free up the emergency physicians to concentrate on the management of higher acuity presentations
- To fully integrate the primary care stream with that of the Emergency Department to provide seamless patient pathways irrespective of the nature of their condition.
- To support people who are not registered with a GP in Bradford to become registered, thus reducing reliance on the ED & the Primary Care Stream for their care needs
The service is in operation 12 hours a day 7 days a week (12noon to 12midnight).
Bradford Care Alliance work in partnership with Kensington Street Surgery who provide GP’s and HCA’s to the service, Local Care Direct who provides the reception team along with IT support and Bradford Teaching Hospital Foundation Trust who provide the space and triage for the service at Bradford Royal Infirmary.
